ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë Olive Oil Receives Awards

This year’s ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë olive oil entries to the Los Angeles International Extra Virgin Olive Oil Competition yielded a Silver medal in the “light, delicate” variety of olive oil, and Bronze recognition for the bottle’s label design created by Scripps sophomore Mary Alexandra “Molly” Vaughn Antell.

Campus Events: Scripps Dances Annual Spring Concert

Students, faculty, and guest artists come together on April 21 and 22 for Scripps Dances, the ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë Dance Department’s annual spring concert. Presenting original dance pieces choreographed by students and faculty, this year’s program features many “abstract dances and socially minded works that explore the importance of belonging, intimacy, and connectivity,” says Assistant Professor of Dance Kevin Williamson, co-chair of the department.

Barbara Bruner ’76: Providing 10 Years of Sponsorship for Carter Center Executive Briefing

In early spring, Barbara Bruner ’76 selected Grace Reckers ’18 as the Scripps attendee for the Carter Center Executive Briefing held in Atlanta this April. Bruner, a ÈÕ±¾ÎÞÂë Trustee, has funded at least one student a year to attend the briefing for the past decade.

Laspa Center for Leadership: An Alternative Spring Break: Scripps Students Meet with Bay Area Business Leaders and Creatives

Our group of 10 students drove six hours from Claremont to San Francisco to reach our beautiful Airbnb, a Victorian penthouse apartment located in the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood. Many of us, being Southern Californians, felt glad to be on the trip because we finally got to see the famous city.

Awards and Honors: Julia Thomas ’17 Receives Thomas J. Watson Fellowship, Project Will Explore Citizen Journalism Around the World

Julia Thomas ’17, a history major and environmental analysis minor from Bainbridge Island, Washington, will be spending her first year post-graduation doing independent research as Thomas J. Watson Fellow. The Watson Fellowship program, which awards graduating students the opportunity to travel and complete a self-designed project, selects applicants from private liberal arts colleges and universities around the United States.
